Blue Mondays

Despite partial employment, I seem to be doing Monday sessions only these days. I'm sure July 4th weekend killed some of the motivation as well...

Last Monday. B & I drove down to San O (sorry pup, we had to abandon you for the day), since the 3-4ft S swell was going to miss El Porto completely. It turned out to be a good decision; the water was clean (blue even), waves were relatively glassy, and since the NSSA comp came to a close, the crowds were all at Lowers. We surfed Uppers, which was seeing some pretty big peaks roll through. Considering it is summer, that is. As is my usual steez, I found a spot on the shoulder that picked up rando waves and had the spot virtually to myself. Tried to take pics, but neither B nor I were willing to give up our 1st couple waves to get the job done right. Ah well, next time...

Today. There was some decent-sized swell coming through El Porto this morning/noon, so B & I went out for a couple hours. I took the Dan C out for the first time in ages, and I love that board! It's a workout, but throwing turns on it is SO much more fun. I caught one left and B told me he saw the biggest spray I had ever thrown. I totally nose-dived, belly-flopped, and got the wind knocked out of me, but hearing about the spray made it all worthwhile. B's last wave was pretty sick... He caught an outside set, and managed to make the drop as the wave reformed and a new face came up. It's always so satisfying when you can get that to work.

Blue Crush, Part II

Went up to Santa Cruz a couple weeks ago. Of course, we missed the week of 3-5ft surf by a day, but I got the chance to take my girls out and teach them to surf. (B, surf instructor extrordinairre provided the lessons, I was the lurk) Here we are, out at 38th.

Ugh, it feels like there hasn't been surf for MONTHS!!! So that it doesn't seem like I have completely given up on the surfing aspect of this blog, I'll post some rando pics taken during the wildfires of 07 (told you it was rando). It was a small day, but the Santa Ana winds blowing offshore made up for what was lacking in size.

Found: Old Surf Photos, Indo

Found these in a box full of photos somewhere...
This is my dad surfing in Pelabuhan Ratu, circa 1993. (You know, back when my surf craft was a kick board tied to my wrist with a piece of rope):

Somewhere out of Pelabuhan Ratu, just west of Cimaja:

El Salvador Part II: El Zonte, KM59, and Around Sunzal

Here are the pics from the other spots around Sunzal and el Costa del Balsamo.

We'll start with injury#1 (others less impressive and not included on the blog), sustained when I botched a duck dive and got hit in the face with my own board:

This is La Bocana, the local's spot, which broke right outside our window:
B goofing around on a tiny day, La Bocanita (little Bocana):

The lineup at El Zonte (no, it's not always this empty. Far from it):
About to paddle out at El Zonte:

KM59 from the cliffs above:

El Salvador Part I: Sunzal

Been meaning to do this for a while, so here goes.
This is the El Salvador trip, Part I. Flying in to San Salvador, we fly right over Punta Roca, the most famous spot in the country:

The break at Playa Sunzal:

Went to Sunset Saturday It was peeling, but really crowded. Almost took out a kid a couple times. Got bored Saturday afternoon and decided to drive down to San Diego. Surfed Oceanside on our way home on Sunday. Looked good, but figured out quickly that it only LOOKED good. Guess that's why there was nobody out.
Meanwhile, I think I may have forgotten how to surf...
